Rigging - Level 1

Course Outline

The Rigging Level 1 course provides the foundational skills and knowledge for safe lifting operations. It adheres to current provincial legislation and regulations, most up to date ASME standards, and industry best practices, serving as a basic training program for personnel involved in rigging and lifting activities.

  • Duration: 1-day

  • Format: classroom theory and demonstrations

  • Validity: 3 years

  • Required PPE: not required

This one-day course integrates classroom instruction and demonstrations. Certification is awarded to participants who successfully complete the written assessment.

  • Legislation, regulation, and standards

  • Risk management in rigging operations

  • Basic rigging plans

  • Calculating load weight, sling tension, and understanding the rigging triangle

  • Rigging equipment (slings, hitches, hooks, and rigging hardware)

  • Pre-use inspection of rigging equipment

  • Duties and responsibilities of riggers and signal persons

  • Safe use of tag lines

  • Radio communications and hand signals
