Motorcycle
Are the motorcycle courses physically demanding?
Yes. Motorcycle training courses include several hours of practical riding and can be physically demanding. Students should be comfortable riding a conventional bicycle before taking the course.
Will I have to complete a test?
Yes. The course includes both an online test and a practical riding evaluation. Students must successfully complete both components to pass the course.
How do I access the online training?
You will receive an email with your online course registration key approximately 30 days before your in-person training begins. The email will be sent to the address used during registration.
What do I need to bring to the course?
Students are required to bring:

DOT or ECE approved motorcycle helmet

Full-finger gloves (leather recommended)

Sturdy jacket and pants

Boots that cover the ankle

Rain gear
-
Valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence (minimum Class 7 Learner’s Licence)

Online course completion certificate

Course payment receipt
Students under 19 years old must also provide a signed parent or guardian waiver on the first day of training.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the course start time.
What happens if it rains?
Courses run rain or shine. Students should bring proper rain gear and dress appropriately for the weather.
Can I split my course over multiple weekends?
No. Courses must be completed on the scheduled dates and cannot be divided across different weekends or sessions.
Do course fees include HST?
No. Safety Services Nova Scotia is a registered charity and does not charge HST.
Can I apply a discount code after registering?
No. Promo and discount codes must be applied during registration and cannot be added afterward.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Firearms Safety
Which course do I need to take to own or buy a rifle or shotgun?
You need to successfully complete the Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course in order to apply for your Possession & Acquisition Licence.
How do I get a Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL) card?
You first need to successfully complete the Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course (and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course if you want to own a handgun). On completion, you will receive an official student record, as well as information on how to apply for a PAL card. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are responsible for issuing and considering all licence applications.

Can Safety Services Nova Scotia issue me a licence?
No. Safety Services Nova Scotia offers in-classroom courses on firearms safety. The RCMP is responsible for issuing licences.
Can anyone buy ammunition?
No. You must have a valid Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL) to purchase ammunition.
Can I take any of these courses online?
Neither the Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course or the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course may be taken online. Both require a practical and written examination of your abilities by an authorized instructor.
How may someone who cannot read/write take one of the courses?
Even though a Student Handbook is provided, the courses are still verbally taught. Also, at the start of the course, you can tell the instructor you wish to take the written examination verbally.

What do i do if I have a complaint or want to address a concern?
We encourage anyone with a complaint, concern or question to contact us immediately at +1 902 454 9621, or email firearms@safetyservicesns.ca to have us address complaints or issues. Your contact information is not required and you may notify us of any issues anonymously. However, if you wish for us to follow up with you regarding your complaint, you must leave your name and a phone number or email address so that we may contact you.
