Course Overview

The Overhead Crane course provides essential skills and knowledge for safe lifting operations. It exceeds the current CSA B167, ASME B30.2 standards, and industry regulations, serving as a foundational training program for personnel involved in overhead crane operations that are under 10 tons in capacity.

Format
This two-day course integrates classroom instruction, demonstrations, and practical training. Certification is awarded to participants who successfully complete the written assessment and practical evaluations.

 Course Content

  • Legislation, regulation, and standards

  • Risk management

  • Basic rigging plans

  • Calculating load weight, sling tension, and understanding the rigging triangle

  • Rigging equipment (slings, hitches, hooks, rigging hardware, below-the-hook lifting devices, chain blocks and lever hoists)

  • Pre-use inspection of rigging equipment and overhead cranes

  • Duties and responsibilities of riggers, signal persons, and overhead crane operators

  • Safe use of tag lines

  • Radio communications and hand signals

  • Overhead crane types, components, safe use

  • Controlling load swing
