Safety Services Nova Scotia has been offering motorcycle training for over three decades. Riding a motorcycle or scooter requires a whole new set of safety skills to ensure you can avoid a mishap or collision. Whether you are a seasoned rider or just learning, these courses provide valuable information to help you stay safe.
Our Safe Rider Training Programs have been developed by motorcyclists for motorcyclists. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, ride for transportation or ride for recreation, our courses will help you develop safe riding strategies, defensive riding skills and emergency techniques
The Safe Rider Training Course is a combination of classroom instruction and motorcycle or scooter riding practical exercises. The majority of your training time is spent on the motorcycle or scooter and given the nature of our climate in Nova Scotia, our courses are held in varying types of weather. You should therefore be prepared with the appropriate clothing. We do not ride in unsafe conditions therefore each student is required to supply the following:
Motorcycle Helmet (DOT approved)
Gloves preferably leather; make sure they fit. (FINGERLESS GLOVES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED)
Sturdy jacket and pants (leather or denim)
Boots that cover the ankle (preferably leather)
(SNEAKERS & RUBBER BOOTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED)
Boots with higher than average heels will hinder your ability to operate the foot controls.
Steel toe boots are not recommended.
Rain gear is required in the event of rain.
Current NS Drivers License -- if you wish to be licensed on successful completion of the course.
Our trainers deliver the Safe Rider Training Course in a safe and professional manner. They are highly competent and qualified through a rigid training program and undergo regular evaluation and review. They will train you in motorcycle or scooter safety and teach you the basic skills you will need in today’s traffic environment.
The topics covered are:
Motorcycle/Scooter Dynamics (Balance, control and steering)
Upon successful completion of our Novice program, attendees are given a Motorcycle Learners Permit** and thereby reduce the mandatory probationary period to one month with no further testing required. Most of our graduates have even received breaks for insurability and premiums.
*some conditions apply*
Our Novice course is delivered on motorcycle or scooters provided by SSNS. Each student will have their own individual motorcycle or scooter. The program is designed for the novice rider and uses scooters from 50cc to 125cc and motorcycles from 125cc to 300 cc.
